Regarding the Best Original Song category, note that it’s the songwriters who are nominated for the award, not the performer.
John Legend and Common took home the award for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes this past Sunday. But that doesn’t mean they have the edge when it comes to winning Oscar gold.
The 2015 nominees for Best Original Score include Alexandre Desplat for The Imitation Game and The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gary Yershon for Mr. Turner, Hans Zimmer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Jóhann Jóhannsson for the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything. He just took home the prize for Best Original Score at the Golden Globes.
Lana Del Rey was once again snubbed by the Academy, this time for the title track from the Tim Burton film Big Eyes.

This year’s Best Picture nominees include American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything and Whiplash.
