This morning the 2015 Oscars nominations were announced, and one film was glaringly missing from the Best Animated Picture category, according to many: The LEGO Movie.
The film, one of the major box office successes of 2014, was beat by Big Hero 6, The Boxtrolls, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Song of the Sea, and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya for the nominations at the Academy Awards in 2015.

The snub surprised a great deal of people; not only has it grossed close to $470 million globally, it also scored a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, notoriously a tough site to gain even a rating in the 90s.
But even though the omission stung for everyone involved, one of the film’s writers and directors, Philip Lord, took it in stride, coming up a very awesome response on Twitter.
It's okay. Made my own! http://t.co/kgyu1GRHGR

Jokes aside, Lord also wanted everyone to know he wasn’t taking it too personally. He then thanked everyone who helped make the movie “a classic.”
This is not a tragedy. Congrats to incredible crew and cast of The Lego Movie, who made a classic.

While The LEGO Movie didn’t get an Oscars nomination for animation, it did receive one in the Best Original Song category. The movie’s impossible-to-shake theme song penned by Tegan and Sara will be competing against Common and John Legend‘s Golden Globe-winning “Glory” from Selma, Rita Ora‘s “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights, Glen Campbell‘s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me, and Adam Levine‘s “Lost Stars” from Begin Again.

Meanwhile, attention in the animation category now turns to How to Train Your Dragon 2, which bested The Lego Movie and its other competition in the same category at the Golden Globes last weekend.
In an interview last year with CBS Radio station 92.5 XTU in Philadelphia, director Dean DeBlois and stars Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera seemed confident of their chances at the film, a sequel to 2010’s How to Train Your Dragon, scoring praise.
In fact, when asked of its chances versus, say, the inescapable Frozen, Baruchel was steadfast in his support for his film—even calling it better than Frozen.
“He has to be humble,” Baruchel said, referring to DeBlois. “I’m allowed to say that, no, of course it is. It is better than Frozen and all those movies. It’s an amazing movie! People deserve to see it and love it. 400 people worked incredibly hard on this thing over the course of three years and… it’s going to be as good a movie as you could possibly see.”
Added Ferrera: “If you don’t love this movie, there’s something wrong with you.”
