Last night (October 23), Tegan and Sara performed as part of the all-star, all-female line-up, which included Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Kacey Musgraves, and Katy Perry herself, for the We Can Survive benefit concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the show’s proceeds went to the Young Survival Coalition, a global organization dedicated to supporting young women in their fight against breast cancer.
Before their performance, the sisters sat down with Radio.com backstage to discuss their views on the development of their critically acclaimed 2012 album Heartthrob, the difficulties that women still face in the music industry and how the two manage to keep their bearings so far away from home.
“My mom just came to Europe with us for three weeks,” Tegan said. “She always imagined we had two lives, touring life and home life, and she realized our life is this. It’s not two separate lives.”
